Ex Money OS vs a general POS
A retail POS is built for items with one price and stock counted in units. An exchange shop's product is cash: the price has two sides, changes several times a day, and the stock is banknotes counted by currency. Many shops try setting USD up as a product and discover that the close, the reports and the customer documents never line up.
A general POS is still workable when
- Exchange is a side service of another business, a hotel or gold shop say, with little daily volume
- You handle one or two currencies and rarely change rates
- You do not yet keep customer documents systematically
| The shop's task | A general retail POS | Ex Money OS |
|---|---|---|
| Two-sided price, buy and sell | Two products per currency | One currency carries both rates; the ticket picks the side |
| Repricing several times a day | Edit each product's price | Set the branch's rates once; the board follows, with history |
| Stock is banknotes | Counted as units, not by currency or branch | Counts per currency per branch; handover sheets signed and photographed |
| Multi-currency close | Closes in baht only | Every currency counted against expected, variance per currency |
| Customer details and documents | None, or a note field | Customer, documents and ID card or passport OCR attached to the ticket |
| The rate board at the window | None | A board per branch, on any screen |
| Reports | Sales in baht | Buy and sell per currency, estimated margin, and data for regulatory forms |
| Permissions | Cashier and manager | Cashier, manager, owner; margins and rate edits kept apart |
How to move without closing the counter
List your currencies and branches
The team sets up branches, staff and boards to match the counter.
Put the rate board where the sign was
The old screen shows the branch board; rates change once, from the system.
Run both for a week
Then retire the POS for exchange only; the rest of the shop keeps using it.
Common questions
Can we keep our receipt printer?
Receipts print from the browser through any printer the computer can see, which covers most receipt printers.
We are a gold shop that also exchanges. Does it fit?
Yes. Use it for the exchange side only; the gold business stays on its own system.
Do we need new hardware?
No. Any computer or tablet with a browser and an internet connection will do.
Want it compared with what you actually use?
Send a sample of your current sheet or report. The team will point out, item by item, what moves right away and what should stay where it is.
